11/9/2023 0 Comments Good memories from 2020![]() ![]() In eighth grade, I took a test in an attempt to get into Thomas Jefferson High School. In particular, it has brought to mind one memory from before I came to Stacey Junior/Senior High School that has kept me going amidst the pandemic. However, all this time in quarantine has also led to me remembering the times in school before, not knowing that senior year would be cut short. Whether that is spreading joy through a simple “Hello” text or spending time with your pets, we have all found new ways to support one another. I doubt this is the first time any of us have faced a setback - maybe never one of this proportion - but everyone has found ways to see the light within these dark times. This pandemic has shown one thing about us along with the rest of the world - perseverance. Not only have we bound together during this, but so has the remainder of the world. From John Krasinski’s prom to the Barack Obama graduation speech, there are many people supporting us. It may become easy to feel lost and lonely during this time, but a simple Google search will show you that people have not forgotten about the quarantine Class of 2020. While we are lucky to have homes and families to support us, things have grown harder for a large portion of the world, yet every day comes one after another, and life goes on in the hopes that things will improve soon. From Netflix to group chats, we have managed to scrape together memories despite the loss of sports practices, UIL competitions and prom.ĭespite being weighed down by what we have lost in terms of typical senior year memories, we have found our little joys with one another. We have found ways to enjoy our time in quarantine not only with our families but with one another. However, this class of 39 students is not your run-of-the-mill group, which has benefited us in times like this. While quarantine may be safer, it is sad that the Class of 2020 cannot go through these moments the traditional way. I always thought my friends, teachers and family would be in front of me as I give this speech, but it seems they have to wait to hear a recording of this. You all have helped me learn and succeed, and made these past few years in Texas ones I will never forget. Thank you to all my teachers and everyone else who keeps the school functioning. Thank you to my mother and father, my brothers, my grandparents and my dogs. Thank you to anyone who has been someone to laugh with, a shoulder to cry on or helpful when things got stressful. I’d also like to thank everyone who helped me get to this spot today.
